About Us

Our history, in a nutshell...

Formed in 1980 by the Boone County Commission, the Boone County Ambulance Authority operates as a political subdivision of the county commission under the direction of a board of directors. With over 40 years of service to the citizens of Boone County, the BCAA is proud to boast an 'Excellent' rating by the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services and was selected as the 2018 EMS Agency of the Year.

Board of Directors

The BCAA Board of Directors is comprised of a group of Boone County citizens, selected by the county commission, to oversee the financial stability of the agency.

Boone County EMS Levy

Our agency is extremely fortunate to be one of the few counties that have an EMS Levy to help support our operations. Split between the two agencies responsible for providing coverage for Boone County, the BCAA receives 88% of the EMS Levy while Whitesville Ambulance Service receives the remaining 12%.

We are so grateful to the voters of Boone County that continue to support our agency and the EMS Levy!

Mutual Aid

The BCAA is proud to offer and receive support from many of our surrounding EMS agencies. Currently, we have standing mutual aid agreements with Whitesville EMS, Kanawha County EMS, Lincoln County EMS, & Logan County EMS. These agreements allow those agencies to respond into Boone County for emergencies if needed and allows our agency to provide assistance to their agency if needed for emergencies.

VFD Rapid Response

We work closely with all Boone County VFDs to help ensure that all emergency calls are answered as quickly as possible. The fire departments are able to respond to more remote areas of the county to reach those in need and provide stabilizing treatment until an ambulance arrives. These partnerships help our agency ensure that patients receive help quickly in their time of need.

Transport Services

Though our primary mission is always emergency response, our agency also provides non-emergency transport services as well as interfacility transfer services to Boone Memorial Hospital. Providing services like these, while not emergent, allows us to provide complete transport services to both our acute and chronic care patients.
